The Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development in Limpopo will, on 18 December 2019, embark on a media tour, with a view to assess progress and accountability to the funded land reform farms.
As part of government support aimed at assisting distressed land reform, the farms which were restituted since 1994, i.e. the Ba-Phalaborwa ba Selwane Community received R22 million in January 2019 to improve productivity in its restituted farms.
The department has already spent R147, 719, 201.52 million in grant funding, from which a sizeable number of restitution projects has benefited, during the current financial year.
The media tour is organised to provide an insight into the utilisation of the allocated funds and the overall operations of the restituted land, in achieving the expected levels of productivity to ensure the ongoing success of the land reform programme.
The aim of providing support to these land reform projects is to contribute towards creating active and sustainable rural communities that have access to healthy food and decent employment opportunities.
Transport will be provided to journalists upon request due to limited space.
