Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development, Mr Mcebisi Skwatsha, will on Wednesday, 27 November 2019, hand over mechanisation equipment and irrigation pipes to rural women involved in small scale farmers at Mbalati Village near Malamulele under the Collins Chabane Local Municipality.
The mechanisation equipment and irrigation pipes will assist 132 rural women from Mingha and surrounding villages, affiliated to the Vhembe Adopt-a-River Forum and farming in a communal land, to improve food production in the area.
The department bought the farming equipment through its Rural Enterprise and Industrial Development (REID) programme. The objective of the REID programme is to facilitate the development of rural enterprises and industries in areas with economic development potential, thus improving the standard of living and contributing positively to the economy of South Africa, to alleviate poverty, unemployment and inequality.
The handover comes after the women requested assistance from the deputy minister during the 2018 event hosted at Magomani village under the Xikundu Traditional Authority by the Vhembe Adopt-a-River Forum.
