The Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform Mr Mcebisi Skwatsha will hold an Imbizo in Amersfoort - Mpumalanga on Sunday the 15th of July 2018, as part of the 8th National Imbizo Focus Week which started from 9 – 15 July 2018 under the theme "Together we move South Africa forward".
During the Imbizo Focus Week political principals from all three spheres of government engage with communities in different parts of the country. Deputy Minister Skwatsha will hand over a Title Deed to farm workers whose tenure was insecure due to past discriminatory laws and practises.
The Department of Rural Development and Land Reform acquired Valpoort farm for the purpose of securing tenure for four households. The Deputy Minister will visit the farm to see how the land has been subdivided to cater for settlement, planting and grazing needs.
After the site visit, the Deputy Minister and delegates will head to the community hall for an interactive session with the locals. The Imbizo Focus week is one of the mechanisms premised on direct, interactive and unmediated information sharing with communities– which gives credence to the realisation of an active citizenry in a participatory democracy.
