The Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform, Mr Mcebisi Skwatsha in partnership with the Women on Farms Projects (WFP), an NGO working with women in commercial agriculture will conduct farm eviction visits in Drakenstein and host a farm eviction dialogue at the Simondium Community Hall, Western Cape.
Farms to be visited are Marlenique, Dawn Mountain, Soetendal and Houtkloof to highlight the plight of farmworkers that play an equally important part in food production for South Africa and the rest of the world through the important export market. The dialogue at the community hall will be attended by Magistrates, invited Police Service members, the Human Rights Commission and people affected by evictions to the discuss the effectiveness of regulations put in place to curb unnecessary farm evictions.
