Deputy Minister to assess DRDLR supported Cotton Production Enterprise at Jozini, KZN

The Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform, Ms Candith Mashego-Dlamini, will conduct an assessment of a cotton production plant and hand over farming machinery to small holder farmers at Jozini, Kwa-Zulu Natal as part of the Presidential Imbizo Focus Week

The cotton production initiative has been established to create sustainable businesses for small holder farmers in the Makhathini area.

The Department through the Rural Enterprise Development programme and the Rural Infrastructure Development programme has provided various forms of support including financial and material support to small holder cotton farmers. This has sought to revive the cotton production plant in the area.

Cotton production is vital for sustaining the lives of the rural people in UMkhanyakude and neighboring district municipality areas. This industry can potentially create more than 100 permanent jobs in the Cotton Gin and about 500 casual jobs in the fields.
