Deputy Minister Celebrates AGRO-Processing

The Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform (DRDLR) Ms Candith Mashego-Dlamini will on the 26th of April, mark progress on the youth-led vegetable production and arts and crafts projects located in Thaba-Cheu local municipality.  The visit will be aligned to the theme of the imbizo Focus Week for this year which is "agro-processing and linkage".

The youth led project was established and registered as a primary cooperative in 2010 by a former NARYSEC participant who had an opportunity to be exposed to international poverty reduction centre in China.  Dikgapa Environmental Primary Co-operative is situated at Moremela village and specializes in vegetable production such as cabbages and tomatoes. The cooperative contributes significantly to food security to thousands of Moremela residents around Graskop.  Their vegetables are supplied to retailers such as Spar, Boxer, school feeding scheme and local market around Graskop.

Graskop Arts and Craft consist of 50 women from different villages in Thaba Cheu local municipality. The training program started in 2016 and will enable participants to produce and sell their products to fight poverty and create employment in rural communities.

The 6th National Imbizo Focus Week of the current administration commenced on 17 April 2017 and will run until 23 April 2017.  The week is principally a heightened period of engagements between Members of the executive and citizens through on-going dialogues.   During the Focus Week, leaders across the three spheres of government will interact with citizens countrywide.
