Deputy Minister Skwatsha to handover two farms in Ebenhaeser near Vredendal, Western Cape
The Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform, Mr. Mcebisi Skwatsha will on Wednesday, 27 July 2016 be handing over Farm “Altyd Groen” (56.6058 ha) and Farm “Toekoms” (48.7681 ha) to the Ebenhaeser Communal Property Association (ECPA) in a symbolic certificate handover ceremony.

A Settlement Agreement was signed by the the Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform, the Ebenhaeser community, the ECPA and the Commission on Restitution of Land Rights on 15 June 2016 setting forth the processes and procedures for land acquisition and post-settlement development in the Ebenhaeser land claim over a period of five (5) financial years.

The State set aside an amount of R362 Million for the settlement of the claim, which is to be released over a period of five (5) financial years culminating in the 2019 – 2020 financial year. Negotiations with willing sellers have led to the approval by the Minister of the acquisition of nine (9) farms at an estimated cost of R45 Million during the 2015 /16 financial year. These farms are in the final stages of conveyancing, with two aforementioned farms only awaiting the issuing of the title deeds while the remainder will be transferred to the ECPA by August 2016. The claim involves approximately 1 840 verified beneficiaries.
