The Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform Mrs Candith Mashego-Dlamini will lead an event to mark the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children campaign in Chochocho, Mpumalanga on Friday the 8th of December 2017.
The Deputy Minister will conduct door-to door visits in Chochocho where she will distribute supplies to indigent families after which she will address community members at the local community hall. The Deputy Minister will also use the platform to handover arts and craft material to a local co-operative which is supported by Rural Enterprise and Industrial Development Branch within the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform.
Members of the Chochocho co-operative have received extensive training in arts and craft and they sell their products to the local market and at exhibitions.
The government-led 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children is an awareness-raising campaign aimed at fighting the scourge of violence against women and children. It takes place annually from 25 November to 10 December.
The 16 Days Campaign is not viewed as a stand-alone event but another leg of the #365Days of Activism Campaign and #CountMeIn, which aim to mobilise members of society, especially men to join hands with government in the fight to curb Violence Against Women and Children.
