Minister Maite Nkoana Mashabane to hand over implements worth R34 million to Free State Farmers

The Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform, Ms Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, will on Friday, 21st December 2018 hand-over farm implements worth more than R34 million to four farms in Sasolburg, Free State at 11H00.

Farming is both capital and labour intensive industry and farmers who lack access to both resources face inevitable failure. The Department always takes these factors into consideration and has budgeted R34 Million for the procurement and acquisition of requisite machinery, equipment, implements, rehabilitation of farms and infrastructure as well as technical training.

This is the post settlement support the Department provides to ensure farmers’ operations aren’t hampered by lack of resources and to ensure they run viable businesses and the support is being advanced to the four projects.

The hand-over is part of the economic stimulus package announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa aimed at boosting recovery plan to ensure food security, create jobs and most of all uplift the emerging farmers’ contribution to production as a result increasing food security and alleviation of poverty.

The department of rural development and land reform has set aside R400 million toward stimulus package for farmers across country.

The targeted beneficiaries for the post settlement support initiative are Georgina from Mangaung, Landskroon from Lejweleputswa, Berlyn from Lejweleputswa and Olivine Fezile Dabi.
