The Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform (DRDLR), Ms Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, will, on Friday, 26 April 2019, hand over farm implements worth millions of rands to farmers as part of the post-settlement support in Harrismith, at the Makholokoeng Site within Thabo Mofutsanyana District, Free State Province, at 10H00.
The department has invested over R50 million for machinery and equipment, construction of packaging facilities for potatoes and beans, and production inputs for the farmers in and around the Makholokoeng Farmer Production Support Unit (FPSU) as part of operationalising and establishing of further FPSU projects across the country.
This is the post-settlement support that the department provides to ensure that the farmers' operations are not hampered by lack of resources. It is also meant to ensure that they run viable businesses and that the support is being advanced to the other.
The handover forms part of the economic stimulus package that was announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa it is aimed at boosting recovery plan to ensure food security, job creation and, most of all, uplift the emerging farmers' contribution to production as a result increasing food security and alleviation of poverty.
The DRDLR has set aside R400 million towards the stimulus package for land reform beneficiaries across country.
