Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development Minister, Ms Thoko Didiza (MP), will deliver a keynote address during the District 6 Heritage Festival and the renaming of Hanover Street.
This event is historic for the people of District 6, whose dignity was violated when they were forcefully removed and placed in the Cape Flats. To them, the renaming of Kaizergracht Street back to Hanover Street will be monumental. Hanover Street was the lifeblood and nerve centre of District 6. It was a street where old friends used to meet. Sadly, it was also where they finally bade goodbye to District 6 when they were forcibly removed.
The details of the event are as follows:
Date : 24 September 2019
Venue : Corner Russell and Rutger Streets, District 6, Cape Town
Time : 10h00
NB. The department requests media to also join the march procession that will be led by the minister, the mayor of Cape Town, Minstrels, Malay choir and Christmas bands at the grand parade at 9h00.
