Minister to open Cheese factory in Keiskamahoek outside King Williams Town
Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform, Minister Gugile Nkwinti will on Friday 01 December 2017 officially open a Cheese Factory at Keiskamahoek in the Eastern Cape.

The cheese factory was established under the Seven Stars Dairy Trust, which was launched by the Minister in 2012. Members of the trust are community members, and beneficiaries who own the land. The Department of Rural Development and Land Reform supported the project from the initial establishment of dairy until its expansion to include the cheese factory.

To-date the DRDLR has provided infrastructure capital amounting to more than R50 million. The dairy currently milks 2000 cows and produces 10million litres of milk per year on 690 hectares of irrigated land.

The business sells 6000 litres per day of raw milk for onward sale and processing by Small Medium and Micro Enterprises. In addition there is the opportunity to supply local schools, hospitals and military with pasteurized milk. The bulk of the milk is sold to Coega Dairies in Port Elizabeth.

The event will take place as follows:

Venue : Keiskamahoek Dairy Scheme, ward 02 in Keiskamahoek
Date : 01 December 2017
