Official hand over of water storage (JoJo) tanks in Thakgalang village to alleviate water challenges

The Department of Rural Development and Land Reform (DRDLR), through the Rural Infrastructure Development (RID) branch, will hand over water storage tanks to assist in the alleviation water challenges in Thakgalang community. The objective of the program is to facilitate rural infrastructure development for social growth.

Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform, Ms. Candith Mashego-Dlamini, will hand over water storage solution to Thakgalang community (Bloodriver) near Seshego, Limpopo.

The project was implemented based on the request by the Thakgalang community members and the local Chief. They requested the deputy minister to intervene to severe water shortage for both households and agricultural development in the area. The majority of people mostly affected by water shortage are women, as they are the primary users of water. It has been acknowledged that the responsibility for collecting water for the household usually falls on girls and women.

The water storage tanks provided by the DRDLR at strategic locations in the village will ensure continued water supply for the community.

The deputy minister acknowledges that water is a human dignity and gender issue which cannot be solved by the Department only. Public - Private - Partnerships are key to bringing lasting and sustainable solutions to the water challenges faced by rural people in the country.

The event is scheduled to take place as follows:
