Land Restitution Beneficiaries cash in on some R2.5 million profits from their successful farm Operations

Beneficiaries of the Bela Bela Communal Property Association (CPA), a land restitution project will, on Saturday, 10 November 2018, share an amount of R2.5 million as part of cash benefits arising from production that took place on their restituted farms in Bela Bela, Limpopo.

The profit sharing will be a first of its kind since the land was restored to the community through the land restitution programme.

The CPA’s Chairperson, Mrs Jarita Mabula, will present a cheque totalling R2.5 million to the beneficiaries during the Annual General Meeting of the CPA to be held at Mosetlha Primary School, Makapanstad near Hammanskraal.

The Bela Bela restitution beneficiaries consist of 250 households, with each household set to receive R10 000 in the form of Christmas bonuses.

Normally, during the festive times, CPA members receive Christmas hampers (food) over and above the usual distribution of monthly food parcels.

Since the restoration of the farms, one of the innovations and successes in this community is the implementation of a Community Food Programme, through which each household receives a 12.5kg bag of maize meal, 5kg of meat (Beef & chicken), a hamper of vegetables and 24 packs of eggs every month from the produce and proceeds of the farming venture. This ensures immediate benefit and food security to the community.

The community is running a cattle farming egg production, eco-tourism, game hunting and crop production (seed maize, sunflower and vegetables).

A total number of 70 people are permanently employed. The maize and vegetable farming enterprise also employs 200 seasonal workers on an annual basis. The diversity of enterprises ensures productive and maximum utilisation of the land throughout the year.
