Request for Expression of Interest (REI) to supply farmers with production inputs: Covid-19 Disaster Intervention Programme

The Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development requests all interested wholesalers/ distributors/ agribusiness outlets for the emergency procurement of specific agricultural production inputs, to enable the small-holder and communal farmers to complete the current production cycle. This will help in providing the department with a breakdown and complete list of the products/ items mentioned above that they have in stock.

The department intends to procure by means of issuing purchase vouchers to approved farmers. Farmers will purchase from the wholesaler/ distributor/ agribusiness outlet nearest to the farmer.

The department wants a typical "cash-and-carry'' set up, not middlemen. Interested suppliers should therefore provide physical addresses of their businesses from where farmers can cash and carry by using vouchers.

This process is aimed at making supply arrangements with interested wholesalers/ distributers/ Agribusiness outlets, for the emergency procurement of specific agricultural production inputs, to enable the smallholder and communal farmers to complete the current production cycle.
Their support will be capped at R50 000.00 per approved farmer.

Commodities to be supported and prioritised are as follows:

  • Poultry: Day-old chicks, point of lay chickens, feed, medication and sawdust.
  • Vegetables: Seedlings, fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides and soil correction.
  • Fruits: Fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides.
  • Other livestock: Feed and medication.
  • Winter field crops: Soil correction, fertilizers, seeds, herbicides and pesticides.
