Selobatsane Land Claimants To Celebrate

​The Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform (DRDLR) Gugile Nkwinti will, on 21 March 2017 handover land measuring 6 000 hectares in the Waterberg area to the Selobatsane land claimants. The handover will mark the commitment by government to restore the dignity of the majority of people who suffered during land dispossessions.  

The claim was lodged by the late Mr. Johannes Tshepo Maditse on 31 December 1998 on behalf of the Selobatsane community which is made up of members of the dispossessed community and their descendants. The community consists of 56 households with 284 beneficiaries.

The Office of the Regional Land Claims Commissioner in Limpopo spent over R80.1 million in finalising the land claim that includes prime game farming land.

To date since 1995 the Office of the Regional Land Claims Commissioner in Limpopo spent over R4.155 billion in finalising claims which included agricultural, game farming; eco-tourism and mining land to the previously dispossessed communities.

As the country celebrate Human Rights Day, the Limpopo Office of the Regional Land Claims Commissioner invites members of the media to cover this historic event.
